WELCOME TO A COLOURFUL
WORLD OF INVENTED NARRATIVE
Hi, I’m Kirsty Black a contemporary New Zealand abstract artist, painting from my studio in Maraetai, Auckland.
For me storytelling is a family tradition; it brings you together, creates a sense of belonging and is often entertaining. I see painting as an extension of this tradition, a medium where imagination has free rein, where the work prompts the viewer to continue the story or come up with their own.

“Weaving childhood memories with storylines and explosions of colour. Kirsty Black’s abstract art is like visual poetry. Instead of words and sentences, she intuitively uses colour, shape, line, form, pattern and texture to create a visual dance of the spirit.”
– Fiona Cable Railway Street Gallery
